Shaping the future. Together.
Become part of our team and shape social life in our volunteering projects! In the Altholstein church district, between Kiel and Henstedt-Ulzburg, there are numerous opportunities to get actively involved. Whether you want to help out on one-off occasions or get involved on a regular basis - either way, you will be making a valuable contribution to yourself and others.
Here are some examples of voluntary work at Diakonie Altholstein:
The office guides are there to help if you get stuck in a maze of red tape and only understand the first thing when filling out the form. They provide moral support during visits to the authorities.
We run social department stores in Neumünster, Bad Bramstedt, Hohenwestedt, Bordesholm and Rendsburg. Become an expert in fashion and sustainability!
Singing together brings life to life and enables people with dementia to participate in social life.
Giving vintage fashion a second chance and embracing diversity.
Implement your own ideas in the neighborhood or support existing groups.
Repairing, neighborhood café, spinning and weaving! At the Volkshaus in Neumünster, there are no limits to what you can do.
In an empathetic and sociable group, we need support with singing, games, handicrafts, movement exercises and breakfast together.
Become a host for our homeless guests - from lunch to board games. We look forward to friendly faces and conversations.
The NeLe (Neumünsterer Leselust) initiative is looking for readers to offer lively readings in kindergartens, facilities for senior citizens and on special occasions.
The KulturBoten provide unsold or donated tickets free of charge to people on low incomes, thus promoting participation in culture and education.
In Kiel, Neumünster and Itzehoe, we help to ensure that no one is left behind. Whether it's a forgotten comb or a missed train - you are the person to contact in all situations at the station.
The Haart Café team in Neumünster regularly opens its doors to refugees from the surrounding state accommodation. Their hearts are in it!
We are involved in various locations, including the Kiel-Wik shared accommodation center. Be there with your heart!
Join us in shaping a future in which social commitment and community are a top priority!
Each project is supervised and coordinated by our full-time coordinators, who are on hand to answer your questions, organize training courses and maintain communication.

Where can I get involved?
The range of activities for volunteers is huge. See where you can use your strengths and talents in your commitment. It is your free time that you are using. The tasks should give you pleasure and help you personally. If you have a specific idea of what you would like to do, but don't know exactly where or how you can contribute your idea, talk to us! We will inform you about existing projects and, if necessary, look with you to see whether we can create a new offer.
Will I receive support?
For us, it goes without saying that nobody is "thrown in at the deep end". Volunteers are professionally trained and supported - there are exchange rounds for the volunteer teams so that there is room for questions and suggestions. Our project managers and volunteer coordinators are always ready to listen to your concerns.
Qualification is required for some volunteering activities - for example in the area of station missions or office guides. You can find out the specific conditions in the individual locations from the respective volunteer coordinators or project managers.
Is the volunteering paid?
No. Volunteering means that you use your free time to support other people and important issues in our society. This makes you invaluable in the truest sense of the word. You can be reimbursed for necessary expenses such as travel expenses or similar. Nobody should be excluded from volunteering because of their own financial situation. In some engagements, expenses are covered by a flat-rate expense allowance. If you volunteer with us, you are covered by accident and liability insurance.
What do I get out of volunteering?
It's a great feeling to support people who need help. But that's not all. As a volunteer at Diakonie Altholstein, you actively help shape our work and our community. This starts on a small scale, from person to person, and extends to major socio-political issues. You will experience the difference you make when you are there for other people. By getting involved, you will use your strengths and discover new talents. You will also gain an insight into the work of Diakonie and can acquire additional qualifications.
You will meet new people, can exchange ideas with like-minded people and come into contact with people you might not otherwise meet in everyday life.
