Generalist nursing training

Generalist training is the cornerstone for sustainable and high-quality nursing training for nursing, pediatric nursing and geriatric nursing:

Generalist training means merging several professions into a common occupational profile. The Nursing Professions Act creates a new nursing profession by merging the three previous nursing professions in the areas of "geriatric nursing", "healthcare and nursing" and "healthcare and pediatric nursing".

Nursing specialist / geriatric care assistant
What is the job profile of nursing staff?

Nursing staff are the first point of contact for people in need of care. Their tasks include the professional implementation of nursing measures, taking vital signs and changing wound dressings. They design the care process, assist with therapy and diagnostics and carry out medically prescribed measures. They advise and guide relatives and are significantly involved in quality assurance processes.

The primary task of nursing care is to maintain, improve and restore the health and well-being of the person being cared for. Another important aspect is the time spent together and personal contact in order to best meet the individual needs of patients.

How do the training courses work?

Both are dual vocational training programs. Diakonie Altholstein is responsible for the practical training, while the nursing school is responsible for the theoretical training. We cooperate with all nursing schools. During the practical training, the trainees get to know all areas of application:

- outpatient care
- inpatient short and long-term care
- palliative care
- day care
- gerontopsychiatric care in dementia residential communities

The theoretical part takes place as block teaching. After completing the training, it is possible to change within the care areas at any time. The training is recognized throughout Europe. There are numerous development opportunities in both professions.
