The International Zero Tolerance Day against FGM/C is exactly that: it draws attention to the human and women's rights violations behind the practice and at the same time celebrates the individual and collective, small and large struggles against it.
It is dedicated to those women and girls who take their lives and their health into their own hands, to all mothers who stand up for the integrity of their daughters and to all daughters who dare to speak out against this part of family tradition. And it is dedicated to all families who decide together to make a change.
February 6th is also an important day in the social commitment against FGM/C and we at TABU also want to use it to thank all those who do not recognize FGM/C as an 'individual problem', but who are committed in their own way - be it as bridge builders and multipliers, by participating in further training courses for specialists and successful networking, by looking, listening and speaking out. By having the courage to end the taboo.
In line with this, the Round Table against FGM/C Germany, in which TABU is also involved, has developed a position paper to be handed out to political decision-makers. It calls on the German government to take into account the specific reasons why women are forced to flee and to better protect the women affected. This position paper can be supported by individual signatures and/or logos of organizations.
