Regular dialog spaces were created in which the participants were able to discuss their different cultural backgrounds and individual issues in a protected environment. The basis for the program was that the participants always determined the content and pace. The experience of being seen as a person and having a say is an essential experience in order to position oneself more courageously in everyday life, even outside the protected environment.
One of the focal points of the content was dealing with the topics of self-worth and self-efficacy. "I am valuable", this statement accompanied the participants during the project period and repeatedly provided an opportunity for discussions and to focus on their own strengths. Future, individual perspectives were also highlighted. In addition, there were also excursions, cooking events and always a cheerful get-together, regardless of country of origin or age.
The project, financed by the Kiel Donors' Parliament, offered small but important steps towards change for girls and women affected and at risk. The long-term effect is therefore a further preventative building block against the practice of female genital mutilation and we would like to thank all participants for this.
