Completion is scheduled for spring 2027. The project was officially launched last year after around two years of intensive preparation, extensive funding acquisition and great commitment from politicians, the city and local residents. The decisive impetus was provided by funding commitments from Neumünster council amounting to 360,000 euros and the state of Schleswig-Holstein with 250,000 euros, which together made the start of construction possible.
Diakonie Altholstein is still dependent on donations for the construction and operation of the home. Although 95 percent of inpatient hospice care is financed by the funding bodies, the remaining five percent must be covered by donations worth 150,000 euros each year. Every contribution counts - whether small or large, one-off or regular.
Numerous donors have made an important contribution to the success of the hospice project. "We are overwhelmed by the level of willingness so far and would like to thank all donors for their generous commitment," says Gesa Kitschke, Managing Director of Diakonie Altholstein.
This broad commitment is reflected not only in the many individual donations, but also in the cooperation with local partners. CineStar Neumünster, under theater director Massimiliano Coppola, has been actively supporting the project since 2024. The cinema has now presented Diakonie Altholstein with a donation of 600 euros - the result of several joint charity cinema evenings in 2025. An additional film poster flea market to benefit the project rounded off the campaign.
"It is a matter close to our hearts to support this important project. The charity evenings show how strong a community can be when many people come together. As a cinema, we are a place of encounter and we are happy when we can also assume social responsibility," says Massimiliano Coppola.

"Collaborations like this show how much is possible when companies and civil society work together in the long term. Every initiative, every event and every donation counts and brings us closer to this important goal step by step." Gesa Kitschke also emphasizes the importance of the continued support from the population and partners: "The popularity shows how great the solidarity for the project is. In order for the Maria&Martha Hospice to become a reality, we are also dependent on this solidarity in the long term - for the construction as well as for the subsequent operation. The joint charity cinema evenings were already very popular last year. Films were shown that focused on topics such as farewell and human closeness - and thus touched on precisely those issues for which the Maria&Martha Hospice wants to create a place for. This year's series kicked off on April 17 with the film SMS für dich.
The collaboration will continue: Two more evenings will follow - admission is 10 euros each, donations are requested. They will be shown on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 18: 00 and on Friday, November 13, 2026 at 18:00 Ziemlich beste Freunde.
