Nortorf social center under new sponsorship: Diakonie Altholstein takes over reliable advice for people in need

(Nortorf, 26.03.2026) Diakonie Altholstein took over the sponsorship of the Nortorf Social Center on 1 October 2025. This means that the counseling service at Niedernstraße 6 will remain available for people in the Nortorfer Land district. In future, social counselor Julia Dambach (photo) will be responsible for the counseling center; she will work 20 hours a week at the facility. Funding will continue to be provided by the Nortorfer Land office.

Proven service in new hands

Dieter Staschewski, Director of the Nortorfer Land office, appreciates the cooperation with Diakonie Altholstein: "Diakonie Altholstein has many years of experience in providing social counseling for people in need at several locations. We are delighted that they are now also taking on this task in the Nortorfer Land office. This ensures the continuity of the service and that the local counseling service remains reliable."

Torsten Manthey, Head of the Building and Environment Department and the Public Order and Social Administration Department at Nortorfer Land, adds: "For us, the focus is on providing reliable support for people in difficult situations. With Diakonie Altholstein as the provider, the social center remains a low-threshold and confidential service, a first point of contact, coordination and mediation for anyone who has got into social difficulties or personal crises. Advice is free and neutral. This is an important building block for social security and cohesion in our region."

Range of services: confidential, free of charge, professionally networked

The advice provided by the social center includes information on assistance to secure livelihoods such as benefits under SGB II (citizen's allowance) and SGB XII (social assistance) as well as other social benefits. The staff provide support with questions of responsibility and, if necessary, refer people to specialist advice centers, such as debt counselling, addiction counselling, the social psychiatric service or marriage, family and life counselling.

Anna-Lena Walczak, Head of the Migration and Integration Department, emphasizes the networking: "The social center complements the existing advisory services in the district. In close coordination with the care support center and the refugee counseling service, we can provide long-term support to those seeking advice and arrange tailor-made help. This creates shorter paths for people who need help."

Advice approach: helping people to help themselves

Social counselor Julia Dambach relies on the principle of 'helping people to help themselves': "It's important to me to work with those seeking advice to develop solutions that strengthen their independence. The advice is confidential and practice-oriented so that people can quickly regain their ability to act. I invite everyone in the Nortorfer Land region to come to us at an early stage so that we can develop prospects together."
