Department stores center of attraction

We operate social department stores at various locations in Schleswig-Holstein, which offer a valuable point of contact for anyone looking for high-quality and affordable goods. Our assortment ranges from household items and furniture to clothing, bicycles and toys - everyone will find something suitable here.

The items are sold at a low cost, which means we make an important contribution to a sustainable way of life. Our social department stores also offer people who have been unemployed for a long time the opportunity to further their education and develop new prospects. Find out more about our work opportunities in accordance with Section 16d SGB II here.

We also enable customers on low incomes to buy beautiful things for little money. All goods come from generous donations, which we accept directly at the social department store during opening hours. For larger items, our free collection service is available to collect the donations directly from the donors. Delivery for customers is possible for an additional charge.

In some of our department stores, there are volunteer-run cafés that offer space for people to meet and chat. We cordially invite you to become part of our community and join us in making a contribution to a sustainable society based on solidarity. Information events on various topics take place at regular intervals in our "Anziehungspunkte", e.g. advice on saving energy, housing shortages, care and migration advice, office guides, etc.. We look forward to your visit!

Donation collection
FAQ - What, when, how?

If I want to donate, what do you take?
We accept all types of furniture and donations in kind that are in a usable condition. This means that the donations should be clean, in good condition, undamaged and in working order. Signs of use are acceptable to a certain extent. In some cases, the goods can be restored to a usable condition through minor refurbishment. Our aim is to ensure that people in need also have a "shopping experience" and that our goods correspond to today's lifestyle.

I have some furniture to give away. Is that possible?
Of course we are happy to take furniture, but we have to take a few things into account. We have to choose donations for which we can find suitable customers in our social department stores. That's why we generally always carry out a prior inspection of furniture.
Furniture must be able to be assembled and disassembled again, as it will be handled by us several times. We are not restricted to certain styles, but try to cover a wide range of products for our customers.
From our experience, we know that furniture has to fit into smaller apartments, for example. Large wall units, for example, are unsuitable.

But why can't you take the furniture with you and try to sell it first if donors think it's still good?
Our selection is necessary to keep our disposal costs low. If goods cannot be sold, we have to dispose of them. This means costs for us that we cannot bear as a charitable project.
For the donors, these are often products with sentimental value, with memories attached to them that they once spent a lot of money on and that have become dear to them. We then have the unpleasant task of saying that we cannot accept the goods. We don't want to hurt the donors, but we always have to remember that we can sell the goods again.
Unfortunately, we are sometimes in the position of having to turn down well-preserved furniture donations because our storage capacity is limited. We then try to collect the donation at a later date.

I heard from a friend that you turned down her request to clear out an entire apartment. Why is that?
We are a social project, we employ long-term unemployed people who are supposed to find a way back into the primary labor market. That's why our framework conditions are different to those of a private company. Our services do not include clearing out or broom-free house clearance.

Where do you collect the donations?
We collect within a radius of approx. 30 kilometers from Bad Bramstedt, Bordesholm, Hohenwestedt, Neumünster and Rendsburg.

What do I have to pay for the collection?
Nothing. Collection is free of charge!
