The rooms at Kiel Central Station have been extensively renovated and modernized since the end of September: New floors, doors, a modern kitchen and almost completely new furnishings now create a friendly, warm and modern atmosphere. The dining room has also been extended - so in future there will be more seats available for the constantly growing number of guests.
"With the extensive renovation of our station mission, we have created a place that radiates warmth, dignity and community," says Josefine Scotti, Overall Coordinator of Station Missions at Diakonie Altholstein. "We are particularly pleased that we are now also enabling digital participation with a laptop workstation - an important step towards making it easier for our guests to access information, communicate and participate in social life."
In addition to WiFi, a laptop workstation and charging lockers, the design of the new rooms reflects the appreciation shown to the guests and the dedicated volunteers.
The renovation was financed by Deutsche Bahn, while the furniture was made possible by the Kieler Spendenparlament (2,000 euros) and the Deutsche Stiftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt (1,500 euros). Donations from Provinzialversicherung and NAH.SH also contributed to the project. "We are very grateful for the trusting cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, the contractor Schneider and all supporters who made the renovation and modernization of the station mission possible," says Gesa Kitschke, Managing Director of Diakonie Altholstein. "Thanks to their commitment, the Kiel station mission will be able to offer even more people a place to arrive, take a deep breath and belong in the future."
