Groundbreaking ceremony: start of construction of the Rendsburger Straße daycare center

(Neumünster, May 2, 2024) The waiting lists for nursery and daycare places are long. This poses great difficulties for many families in Neumünster. Diakonie Altholstein is providing a remedy with its daycare facility in Rendsburger Straße: The new building, which is due to open in the first quarter of 2025, will have space to care for around 55 children in two elementary and one mixed-age group. "After a long project lead time, the ground-breaking ceremony is finally taking place today, heralding the start of construction," says Gesa Kitschke. Managing Director of Diakonie Altholstein and adds: "I would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their patience and continued support - that's what it takes for a project like this to succeed."

In addition to the group rooms and the associated ancillary rooms, the building will also include a canteen and an exercise room. These should offer the children sufficient opportunities for their individual development. The building also offers additional rooms that can be used as consultation rooms and according to the needs of the district. The architectural firm "BSP Architekten BDA" from Kiel is responsible for the construction planning of the daycare center.

"The aspect of sustainability is very important to us in the construction project and was taken into account by the planners as much as possible. For example, the daycare center will be equipped with a solar system so that the building can be self-sufficient in terms of electricity," explains Kitschke. At the same time, materials selected according to ecological criteria are used in the exterior and interior fittings. These include, for example, a wooden façade, clay plaster and lightweight clay walls, as well as environmentally friendly wall paints.

The construction costs of the new childcare facility amount to 4.7 million. The project is being funded by the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the city of Neumünster. However, Diakonie Altholstein is investing almost 4 million in the construction project itself.

"For us as Diakonie Altholstein, it is important that children can grow up well cared for and protected, while at the same time supporting families in balancing work and family life," emphasizes Dr. Hans-Friedrich Traulsen, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Diakonie Altholstein, adding: "We are very proud that, as a social enterprise with a church character, we have the economic and organizational possibilities to be able to realize a project such as the new construction and operation of this daycare centre."

"I am very pleased that the new Diakonie daycare center in Rendsburger Straße will make a significant contribution to meeting the demand for daycare places from 2025 with 55 places. In 2025, a total of 190 Ü 3 and 75 U 3 places are expected to be created, which means that Neumünster is making great strides towards meeting the demand for daycare places," says Lord Mayor Tobias Bergmann.

Diakonie Altholstein has been running the Anschar daycare center and the Kleine Fische crèche in Neumünster for many years and is now bringing its expertise and attitude to the daycare facility in Rendsburger Straße. "Each of our facilities should be a place of acceptance and appreciation for all the people who come and go there. God loves everyone just as they are and that is exactly what we want to convey to the children and families at our facilities," Kitschke describes.
