At the halfway point of the project, the two advisors take stock of their work and explain the most frequently asked questions and show why the home visit is so popular beyond Norderstedt Mitte. "It is important to us to show people that help is close at hand and that they can access it at any time," emphasizes Marion Janser, Head of the Seniors and Neighborhood Work Department at Diakonie Altholstein.
Topics that are frequently addressed during the home visits include
- Leisure activities and social contacts
- Domestic support and adaptation of living space
- Opportunities for involvement
- preventive care
Björn Lange-Kröger from the City of Norderstedt, who planned the project together with the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council and continues to provide close support, adds: "The Norderstedt home visit is an excellent example of how we can sustainably improve the quality of life of our older citizens."
All over 65-year-olds in Norderstedt Mitte have already received a letter from Mayor Katrin Schmieder encouraging them to make use of the home visit service. A total of 2,800 people were contacted at the start of the project. So far, 176 people have taken advantage of an initial consultation and a total of 221 follow-up consultations have been carried out. "We are satisfied with this interim result, especially because we have launched a completely new service here and awareness and trust must first grow," explains Marion Janser, adding: "At the same time, we want to encourage even more people to use this service. It is often the first step towards better support".
Interested parties simply need to pick up the phone and make an appointment for a home visit at the office at Ulzburger Str. 225.
It is important to know that a visit can also be booked without a letter. "Even if you think, 'I'm fine! ', it makes sense to take preventative action. That way, senior citizens are informed and know where they can get help if they have any questions or need support," explains Christa Bielkin. The two advisors have networked intensively with the many players in Norderstedt in order to get to know the wide range of services on offer and to be able to refer to them during home visits. "It's important that people don't just start thinking about ageing at the age of 80," adds Schröder.
They are currently touring companies in Norderstedt to raise awareness of the service. "We want to offer employees at the transition to retirement a competent point of contact so that they can consciously shape their new everyday life," says Janser.
