With the project "Keep moving with DigiCare" in cooperation with Digirehab GmbH, Diakonie Altholstein is preventing increasing physical inactivity in old age at home and thus mitigating its physical and mental consequences. DigiCare itself is a tailor-made digital exercise program that was developed and scientifically evaluated with the involvement of physiotherapists in Denmark, where it has already been in use in Danish municipalities for several years. "It enables users to work on their own fitness, with DigiCare picking them up at their own personal training level," says Lars Jessen, one of the managing directors of DigiRehab Deutschland GmbH, describing the software solution.
"We have long relied on digital technologies to support our nursing staff in their work and make it easier to care for those in need of care, while also creating added value for the senior citizens in our assisted living facilities, residential communities and day care facilities, among others. With the first use of DigiCare in outpatient care in Germany, we are going one step further and offering older people the opportunity to become active preventively or as part of rehabilitation and to improve their constitution virtually according to their needs," explains Benjamin Seidel, Head of the Seniors and Care Division at Diakonie Altholstein, adding: "The aim is to mitigate or even avoid a progressive need for care and to enable our customers to live in their own four walls for as long as possible."
A model for the future
Seidel emphasizes that applications such as DigiCare with their solution approach are also fulfilling a social mission and are becoming increasingly important, especially in light of the shortage of care for people in need of care. The training with DigiCare is geared towards the everyday life of senior citizens and is intended to help them to do everyday things such as getting up, getting dressed or climbing stairs more easily again. A course unit lasts up to 20 weeks and lasts a maximum of 20 minutes per training unit, which is even partially covered by care insurance if the need for care is confirmed.
A major advantage of the training program is that senior citizens are not left alone with the use of DigiCare, but can be accompanied during the introduction and, if desired, the training at home by caring relatives or the nursing staff of Diakonie Altholstein.
